The Bright Tights gynaecological cancers charity is pleased to announce that over £22,000 was raised on Bright Tights Day 2013 on Friday 1 November.
Bright Tights is a locally registered charity aiming to increase awareness of gynaecological cancers and raise funds for research into their causes and treatment. It also provides support for local women suffering from gynaecological cancers and financial assistance to Guernsey Cancer Support.
Chairperson of the Charity, Pat Child said “We owe a big thank you to everyone who wore tights, held events or supported the day in anyway. We are delighted that so much more awareness of gynaecological cancers was raised in the island last year. Hopefully more women will now recognise the symptoms of the five gynaecological cancers and seek help before it is too late”.
Treasurer Ann Batttye said “the group was amazed and extremely grateful with the amount of money that was raised. It was far above our expectations”
The monies sent to The Eve Appeal were used to further ground breaking research at the University College London such as ‘Promise 16’ which stands for Predicting Risk of Ovarian Malignancies, Improved Screening and Early detection by 2016.
Guernsey Cancer Support is using some of the money presented to them to fund a Gift Bag Project. They also use the money to pay for advertising their meetings, which are on the third Thursday of the month at Les Cotils, and the cost of running the meetings and the group.
This year committee member Beckie Kelling is organising a Bright Tights Tea Party which has already received a fantastic response, with all tables are now sold.
Bright Tights Day 2014 will be held on Friday 7 November. Activities for the day are planned to be even bigger and better than last year with Breakfast, Lunch and a Ball on the menu.
