Ten school leavers and university graduates have started client work with Deloitte in Guernsey as they commence training contracts with the firm.
The new trainees come from a broad range of academic specialisms, from Politics and Economics to Biochemistry and Education Studies.
The trainees include Guernsey school leaver Joely Culverwell, who studied Business Studies, Philosophy and Ethics and Film Studies at A-level and an additional Certificate in Financial Studies at the Grammar School. She joins Deloitte’s ‘earn-while-you-learn apprenticeship’ - the Brightstart programme.
Local graduate Jack Mancini also joins, having studied History at the University of Aberdeen.
A further eight trainees are relocating to Guernsey. Beth Allen from Bristol read Accounting and Economics; and Tom Langton from near Ascot, who also read Economics, will be joining from Cardiff University and the University of Sussex respectively.
Vivien Nemeth from Hungary, who studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen; Matthew Rolls from Wimbledon, who read History at the University of Exeter; and Rosemary Couldridge from Sark, who studied Education Studies at Oxford Brookes University, will be joining them to make up this year’s audit graduates.
The tax graduates include James Dickinson from Liverpool, who read Politics at Durham University (BA) and Philosophy at the University College London (MA); and Oblie Botchway from London, who studied as an undergraduate in Biochemistry at Imperial College before going on to study for a Graduate Diploma in Law.
Completing the group, and also joining Deloitte's Brightstart programme, is Ed Carter, who attended The Leys Cambridge and studied Economics, Business Studies and Music at A-level.

All trainees complete a month of office and college-based learning to give them essential knowledge and skills. This initial training course ensures that the students settle into the business and build strong relationships with their mentors, appraisers and buddies before commencing client work.
