This year students from the Elizabeth College Summer Orchestral Course (ECSOC) will be busking in town to raise money for the Guernsey Arts Commission (GAC).

ECSOC, which is sponsored by Intertrust and supported by the GAC, has organised for individual and group performances, made up of senior players, to play simultaneously outside Boots, in Church Square and in Market Square from 12pm to 1pm on Monday 21, Tuesday 22, Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 August.

The summer music course is now in its 43rd year and is open to Guernsey and overseas students aged eight to 20. The course helps the students to develop their musical abilities and confidence in performing. This year it will run from Monday 21 August and finish with a final concert on Saturday 26 August 2017.

Intertrust managing director in Guernsey Paul Schreibke said: “We’re pleased to support an educational course of this importance for young people and give them the opportunity to thrive.

“It is great for the students to get out and perform in town and to make a difference by raising money for a local charity. I’m sure the community will really enjoy their talents and it will give the students a chance to show off their hard work.”

ECSOC director Charles Cottam said: “We want to encourage the community to get involved and be inspired by music. Performing in town will allow the students to bring ECSOC into the community, provide lunchtime entertainment for the public and will also help raise money for the Guernsey Arts Commission.

“We have seen so many students benefit from the course; they can make new friends and improve their musical abilities in just one week. Students come together, learn a lot from each other and share their love of music.

“We are also extremely grateful for the support of Intertrust and the GAC.”
