Organisers of the EPIC Moonlight Marathon are preparing for the largest number of runners ever with help from headline sponsor, Guernsey Employer of the Year, FCG.
Tickets for the event sold out within eight days of launch and 150 people are set to cross the finish line together on Sunday, 4 December in aid of Guernsey based charity This is EPIC.
The event is not a race and but rather a non-competitive run with the aim for all runners remaining together for the whole journey.
The marathon runners will start outside Octopus Bar and Beach restaurant at 2am and will enjoy a sweep of the island in the peace of the night before collecting those running in the half-marathon, the five-mile and five-kilometre distances along the way and sharing a well-deserved breakfast together back at Octopus.
FCG volunteers will wear the newly-designed EPIC Moonlight Marathon running t-shirts and hi-vis vests, to help runners at checkpoints en route and will marshal and hand out goodie bags at the finish line.
EPIC Challenges co-founder, Philip Smith, said: “With FCG’s support all the money raised from the event will go towards the This Is EPIC village savings and loans projects.
“The stories that come from our community projects work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda really help people to understand how putting on a pair of trainers in the middle of the night is going to help transform someone’s life for the better.”
FCG group operations manager Lisa Vidamour, said: “Supporting an event which encourages the Guernsey community to push themselves in a physical challenge like this is right up our street. In September we provided all our staff with personal fitness monitors to help promote fitness and we run monthly wellbeing initiatives where we are seeing real benefits.
“This event is a great way for people to run in a non-competitive atmosphere, in aid of a very well deserving charity that helps so many people. We’re excited to support those taking part and help promote such unique events in Guernsey.”
