A fund dedicated to improving the local community in Vale and St Sampson’s is appealing for applications.

The Guernsey Electricity Community Fund was established last year to support small projects that would benefit parishioners in the two parishes. So far, just one application has been received and now more requests are being sought.

‘Guernsey Electricity has a strong community focus as every single islander is a customer of ours. We support dozens of charities and organisations each year, but wanted a specific fund which would benefit the parishes which are our neighbours,’ said Clare Packman, the company’s communications manager.

‘The Guernsey Electricity Community Fund donated a granite bench to the Bridge Floral Group, which has been installed in the new gardens outside our showroom at Northside and it’s been great to see so many people enjoying that. We’re sure there must be other projects that we could support and look forward to receiving applications.’

Applications are considered by the Guernsey Electricity Community Liaison Group, which is made up of neighbours and representatives of businesses and groups operating in the vicinity of Guernsey Electricity.

‘It’s only right that representatives of the community decide where the funds should go because they can help choose worthy recipients that help make a difference to the local community in the Vale and St Sampson’s,’ said Mrs Packman.

Member of the Bridge Floral Group and Guernsey Electricity community liaison group Mary Snelling urged others to apply for funding.

‘Guernsey Electricity’s support for the Bridge Floral Group’s work is tremendous and funding is available for other smaller-scale projects that improve the local community that might not otherwise receive help,’ said Mary Snelling.
