Local charity, the Guernsey Bereavement Service is holding a fund-raising gala dinner event at St James on 11 November 2016.
This will be the first time the charity has held a black tie event of this type and whilst the date has been aptly selected to coincide with Remembrance Day, there will be nothing morose about the evening’s atmosphere or theme.
Manager Linda Norman said: ‘The date of the event is wholly appropriate given the area in which the charity operates, but the focus of the evening is very much on having fun! We are planning to include some great – if quite unusual – entertainment as well as holding an auction which will be run by auctioneer Trevor Cooper.’
Tickets for the event are now on sale and cost £600 for a table of 10. The charity needs to raise approximately £45,000 annually in order to maintain status quo and develop services and therefore events such as this play an extremely important part of its fund-raising activity.
‘Bereavement is something that we have all had to deal with at some stage or another,’ said Linda. ‘The charity supports people from all walks of life who are coming to terms with loss, usually through death. Like so many local charities we rely heavily on the generosity of the Guernsey public and business sector to ensure that we can continue to offer the services we provide. I hope that the event will be a sell-out and that it generates as much funding as possible.’
