The Guernsey Design Awards 2018 are open for nominations and submissions are invited from entrants who have made a significant contribution to the built environment.

Projects will be judged by a panel including sponsors Norman Piette, the States of Guernsey Planning Service and the Guernsey Society of Architects (GSA). The categories for this year’s awards will be Small Projects (up to 250k), Residential New Build (over 250k), Residential Renovation /Extension (over 250k), Non-residential (over 250k), Heritage and the popular People’s Choice award. Judges will look at the overall quality of design, use of materials, the relationship to setting, sustainability and adherence to the client brief. The winner of the People’s Choice category will be chosen by the general public from a short-list of entrants compiled by the judges.

Mitch Sneddon, President of the GSA says: ‘The quality of the entries submitted in 2015 was exceptional and truly reflected the diversity of excellent design and construction skills that exist across the Bailiwick. I have no doubt that we will get to view projects of an equally high standard and look forward to seeing the projects submitted.’

Paul Rogers of Norman Piette says: ‘As Guernsey’s leading supplier of building materials we are often privileged to have an insight into projects from a very early stage. There are some very talented designers in the Bailiwick and the future of the island’s built environment is in very safe hands. I’m excited to see this year’s batch of entrants and fully expect to be amazed again by the standard.’

Jim Rowles, the Environment Department’s Director of Planning says: “The Planning Service is delighted to work with Norman Piette and the Guernsey Society of Architects to bring forward the Design Awards for 2018. This is just one example of how we are working with the private sector to ensure our budgets stretch further to deliver value for money for tax payers. The Awards will help to show how our planning policies and practice help to facilitate the achievement of innovative, high quality designs which add much to the built environment of Guernsey.”

Entries are limited to projects in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and in areas where planning applications have been submitted to the States of Guernsey Environment Department. Projects must have been completed between the 1st September 2015 and 1st November 2017. Entries submitted to the 2018 Guernsey Design Awards will not be eligible for entry in subsequent Guernsey Design Awards.
