Employees from Guernsey Electricity have used their photography skills to produce a 2017 calendar that will raise money for local special needs support group, Wigwam.

The company held a competition to choose the images contained within the calendar, which is hoped will raise about £2,000 for the charity.

‘Wigwam is absolutely delighted to have been chosen this year and we thank Guernsey Electricity for supporting us. With the Wigwam logo on the calendar, we hope that more families will realise we are there for them, offering support and advice while having fun and make friends,’ said Nikkie Kerr, co-founder of Wigwam.

‘The donations will really help us to continue pushing forward with the work we do, supporting families and individuals, organising events and working with professionals to improve the services available for our members and the wider community.’

The calendar features the photography of seven members of Guernsey Electricity staff, with Dave Smart providing four images depicting Pleinmont, Les Pezeries, Fort Le Marchant and a classic west coast sunset.

The overall winner, Michelle Falla, has her photograph of ‘Rousse just before an electrical storm’ on the front cover. As the winner, she chose the beneficiary.

‘I take a lot of island views and scenes – all on my mobile phone and so was really surprised to find out this one had been chosen for the cover as it’s quite different from the other beautiful shots,’ she said.

‘I wanted a local, child focused charity to benefit from the sale of the calendar. In recent years, some of the larger, high profile island charities had benefitted and I felt Wigwam were less known but equally important. They put children first with the support they provide families and that means the children benefit in many ways.’

Clare Packman, communications manager at Guernsey Electricity, added: ‘Our calendars are always popular and a great way of raising funds for a deserving local charity. It also provides some friendly rivalry within Guernsey Electricity, as well as producing something that shows off Guernsey at its best. They’re a great Christmas present, especially for family members who no longer live here.’

Also featuring in the calendar are images of Paradis, Richmond, Salerie Corner, Sark, L’Eree, Moulin Huet, Portelet and the Cup & Saucer, taken by employees Brian Thorburn, Stacey Le Page, Dan Norman, Paul Creed and Steve Pattimore.

The calendars are available for a minimum £2 donation at the Guernsey Electricity shop and at Wigwam events.
