Guernsey Electricity has donated a granite bench to sit in the soon to be regenerated land opposite their showroom on Northside.
The rejuvenation of the land is part of a Bridge Floral Group campaign to brighten up the area and Guernsey Electricity’s donation comes from the ‘Community Liaison Group Fund’; set up by the firm to support community projects in the Vale and St Sampson.
Work to clear the area began in 2015 with bushes and shrubs being removed and the second phase of regeneration is now underway. States Works are set to install planters and put down paving making the area fully accessible.
Guernsey Electricity chief executive Alan Bates said: “We’re part of the community here on the Bridge and wanted to support the Bridge Floral Group in this project
“The bench will make the new planted area a great place for members of the public to sit and enjoy the sunshine and relax in between using the great amenities here on the Bridge.”
Bridge Floral Group and Guernsey Electricity Community Liaison Group Member Mary Snelling has campaigned for a number of years to brighten up the Bridge.
Mary Snelling said: “We have been working for a few years to revive the Bridge and getting this sponsorship for the bench is a great support for our plans. Having somewhere for people to sit and enjoy the Bridge will be a real boost to the area.”
