Entries are now open for this year’s Harbour Carnival races and for the first time in the event’s history, the island’s teenagers can now sign up.
Dustyn Molver of organisers, the Guernsey Round Table said: ‘Last year, many of the teenagers who attended Harbour Carnival told us they were keen to take part in the events on the night. So for 2017, we’re opening up all the races to those 12 years and above.
‘That includes the Ladies Dinghy Race, for which places are filling up fast, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Man- Powered Flight and the Tug of War; I imagine there are some teenagers out there who’d love to challenge a competing group of teachers to an early dip in the harbour’s waters!’
Fifty percent of funds raised at this year’s Harbour Carnival on Friday 11th August will go to the main beneficiary, The HUB’s Sunflower Project which provides support for young people and their families who have been affected by death or a serious illness. The other 50% will be distributed throughout the year to a range of local good causes supported by the Guernsey Round Table.
Lisa Barnett from event sponsors, RBC Wealth Management added: ‘It’s great that on our tenth anniversary of supporting Harbour Carnival, that we are able to open up the events to a broader group of the island’s community. It’s particularly fitting that in the year that we are raising money for The HUB, that Guernsey’s young people are able to take the plunge. I know from our own staff who enter the races, how much fun it is, so get your applications in now!’
