Islanders can pick up gift tags for this year’s Rotary Club Tree of Joy Christmas present giving campaign from Wednesday 23 November.
The campaign gives islanders the chance to purchase gifts for deserving children in the Bailiwick.
The special gift tags have details of a suggested present and can be picked up from Aladdin’s Cave, Creasey's Toy Shop, Fletcher Sports, Guernsey Information Centre, Guernsey Post Office, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, NatWest and Sure on the High Street.
Gift-wrapped presents can be returned to the same local businesses before Monday 12 December.
The Rotary Tree of Joy light tree, as well as the trees in Church Square and at Guernsey Airport, highlight the start of the Rotary Club’s Christmas present giving campaign.
Guernsey’s Lieutenant Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder, will have a starring role in putting up the Tree of Joy on Sunday 27 November as he has the special job of putting the star on top.
The ceremony, which involves a team of volunteers setting up the lights ahead of the big switch on, has become a local tradition with dignitaries including the Bailiff and Chief Minister taking on the duty in previous years.
This is the 12th year that the club has organised the light tree on the Weighbridge Roundabout and it is one of the biggest in Europe.
The Tree of Joy campaign is supported by Sure, Deutsche Bank and Long Port.
Brian Acton, president of the Rotary Club Guernsey, said: “We are very grateful that the Lieutenant Governor is helping out this year by being hoisted to the top of the tree and positioning the star.
“The Tree of Joy represents not only the start of the Christmas period but this Guernsey tradition is also a symbol of the Rotary gift tag initiative to provide Christmas presents to deserving children in Guernsey.
“This special event wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors, sister charity Inner Wheel and the people of Guernsey whose generosity ensures that our Christmas present giving campaign helps improve more and more children’s Christmases each year. A big thank you goes to all those involved and for their continued support of our initiative.”
The Tree of Joy will be illuminated on Thursday 1 December.
