Guernsey’s school children are once again being asked to enter the Best Dressed Duck competition, part of this year’s Harbour Carnival on 22 July.

With mini ducks available to purchase for £2 each through primary schools in Guernsey, Herm and Sark, children will have until Friday 10 June to decorate their duck reflecting a carnival theme, before being collected from their schools.

The ducks will be judged by the Guernsey Round Table, organisers of Harbour Carnival, along with Leo the Lion from long-term sponsors of Harbour Carnival, RBC Wealth Management. The winner will have the honour of parping the horn to signal the start of this year’s event, as well as an afternoon of sailing activities on the Model Yacht Pond for themselves and their whole class, courtesy of the Guernsey Sailing Trust, the main beneficiary of Harbour Carnival.

Justin Partington, President of Guernsey Round Table said: ‘Last year was the first time we introduced the Best Dressed Mini Duck competition and it was so successful, we have decided to run it again this year. With the Olympics being held in Rio De Janeiro the same month as Harbour Carnival and with Rio home to the largest carnival parade in the world, we thought it would be a good idea for our Best Dressed Mini Ducks to reflect this theme.

‘Each school will be provided with the full details on what you can and can’t do to your duck, such as not making it battery powered, plus we’re putting all the information on the Harbour Carnival website: harbourcarnival.gg. We’re really excited to see how creative children can be and are looking forward to judging all the entries!’
