With RBC Wealth Management celebrating 10 years of sponsoring Harbour Carnival, the theme for this year’s Best Dressed Mini Duck competition will be for the island’s school children to decorate a mini duck with a celebratory birthday party theme.

For a minimum £2 donation, the mini ducks will be available through the island’s primary schools and for the first time this year, pre-schools. Children will have until Friday 30 June to decorate their ducks and bring them back into school, from where they will be collected by the Round Table. All the proceeds will go towards the final total for this year, 50% of which will go to Harbour Carnival’s main beneficiary, The HUB’s Sunflower Project with the other 50% going towards local good causes supported by the Guernsey Round Table.

On Harbour Carnival night, Friday 11 August, they will be placed in a net, which is raised above the mouth of the harbour and take part in the Mini Duck Race, giving children another opportunity to win a prize.

Dustyn Molver from organisers, the Guernsey Round Table, said: ‘We’re delighted to once again be able to offer the winning primary school entry the opportunity to open this year’s Harbour Carnival, as well as a fantastic sailing experience on the Model Yacht Pond for themselves and their whole class, thanks to the generosity of the Guernsey Sailing Trust. We’ve also got a special separate prize for the best pre-school winning best dressed birthday duck, of a bumper pack of art materials.’

Lisa Barnett from sponsors, RBC Wealth Management’s Guernsey Leadership Team added: ‘It seems only fitting that we’ve been able to open up the Best Dressed Mini Duck competition to pre-schools this year, as supporting young people is a key focus for our business. We’re really looking forward to seeing how creative the island’s school children will be in helping us celebrate our 10th year of sponsoring Harbour Carnival.’

Judging will be by the Guernsey Round Table, along with the RBC team mascot, Leo the Lion. -The winner will be contacted by 31 July, with photos of their winning entry plus a selection of other entries, posted on the Guernsey Harbour Carnival Facebook page.
