Celebrity chefs will be transforming humble left-overs into gourmet delights at the Taste Guernsey festival in Market Terrace on Friday.

As part of the week-long Taste Guernsey festival Public Services has teamed up with two celebrity chefs, who will demonstrate to islanders just how easy it can be to use up left-overs that might otherwise be thrown away. The two chefs will be provided with a range of store cupboard items as well as typical left-overs, and will then compete to turn the ingredients into a tastiest and most wholesome meal.

The challenge continues the theme of the ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ campaign which aims to reduce food waste in Guernsey and save islanders money in the process. It is estimated that on average local households could save as much as £600 a year simply by cutting down on the amount of food they throw away.

Public Services waste prevention officer, Shelley Nicholls, said: “This is a great opportunity to come along and get waste-saving ideas from expert chefs. More than half of the food that is wasted could have been eaten, with a bit more planning or thought. Making even small changes about the way we cook and shop can save a lot of money – and you might even learn some new recipes in the process!”

The public are invited to come along and watch the challenges which will take place at 10:30am and 11:30am on Friday 5th September in the inner street of the Market. The demonstration and seating will be free of charge.
