Local businesses prepare to race in the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Inter-Firm Town Relay

The Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Inter-Firm Town Relay will see Guernsey businesses once again take to the streets of St Peter Port for this year’s race on Wednesday 27 July.

The relay is held during the Town Carnival and each year the event supports the Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club (GIAAC) in their trip to the Island Games.

The annual race through the centre of town sees each runner complete a one mile lap. The course starts at the top of Smith Street, takes runners down the Truchot, along the Pollet, down the High Street, along the sea front, back along the Pollet and finally up Smith Street to finish.

The teams of four can comprise men, women or be mixed. Entrants must be over 16 and each team may have one Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club (GIAAC) member.

The Butterfield Bolts took the top spot in the men’s competition for the fourth year in a row last year, completing the relay in a combined time of 20:46. The Run Club won the women’s competition with a combined time of 29:11 and Geomarine took the prize for the first mixed team across the finish line in 22:20.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey head of wealth management, Andy Finch, said, “This is our 13^th year sponsoring the Inter-Firm Relay; it’s become a highly competitive but enjoyable annual event for local businesses. The race has grown year on year with a record number of teams entering the 2015 event and we’re hoping even more teams will take part this year.

“There is always great support from spectators around the course as the teams put their running skills to the test while raising money for the island’s athletics team. It’s usually a close race and it will be exciting to see if the Butterfield Bolts can hold on to the top spot or if a new team will take the title of fastest firm on the island."

Registration is at 6pm and the race starts at 6.30pm at the top of Smith Street. Team entry costs £18 and entry forms are available from the GIAAC office and website or the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management office at Admiral Park. Postal entries can be submitted up to 24 July. Late entries can be made on the day and will cost £22.
