One of the UK’s most renowned hedge fund managers, Crispin Odey, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Guernsey Funds Forum.
The founding Partner of Odey Asset Management will top the bill for the annual event, which this year is titled ‘Real funds and real money in a post-truth world’, and takes place on Thursday 11 May at etc. venues, 155 Bishopsgate in London.
Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Dominic Wheatley said he was excited that Mr Odey would add gravitas and context to the event.
“Crispin is one of London’s best known hedge-fund managers and his wealth of knowledge and experience is sure to bring a fascinating insight into the state of the markets and what lies ahead for the industry, particularly in light of Brexit, which he supported wholeheartedly,” said Mr Wheatley.
The event, which last year attracted nearly 500 delegates, will be moderated for the eighth successive year by ITV News anchor, Alastair Stewart OBE. Panellists already confirmed include Ed Gander from Weil, Joseph Cohen from Trilantic Capital Partners, Tony Mancini from KPMG, Thomas Laverty from Kirkland & Ellis and independent director Simon Holden.
The first panel session, entitled ‘Mountains of money’, will focus on the low return rate environment, the risks of holding cash and the influences on fundraising and investment execution in the light of Brexit.
Mr Wheatley said: “With so much uncertainty surrounding Brexit, we felt this was an important focus for this year’s event, while also looking at what Guernsey has to offer in the funds space. Last year’s event was praised for focusing on the big and relevant issues and we want to continue that trend.”
The second panel session, ‘Add substance add value’, will consider the definition of substance as it relates to the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive and base erosion and profit shifting. The panel will also discuss substance and value creation in Guernsey.
