Over 100 people braved the wind and the cold in the early hours of Sunday morning to take part in the EPIC Moonlight Marathon.

The event, sponsored by FCG, was in aid of This Is EPIC village savings and loans projects which benefit people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda raising over £3000.

The marathon runners started outside Octopus Bar and Beach restaurant at 2am and enjoyed a sweep of the island in the peace of the night before they collected those running in the half-marathon, the five-mile and five-kilometre distances. They then all shared a well-deserved breakfast together back at Octopus while watching a beautiful Guernsey sunrise.

FCG volunteers wrapped up warm to be on hand throughout the night to help runners at checkpoints and hand out goodie bags at the finish line.

FCG group operations manager Lisa Vidamour, said: “Supporting an event which encourages the Guernsey community to push themselves in a physical challenge like this is right up our street.

“This event is a great way for people to run in a non-competitive atmosphere, in aid of a very well deserving charity that helps so many people. We’re excited to support those taking part and help promote such unique events in Guernsey.”
