Paula Williams has been elected as a Guernsey director for The Channel Islands Co-operative Society, after a second ballot.
In the first ballot, Mrs Williams and her fellow candidate, former States deputy Patricia Mellor, received the same number of votes. It was the first time in living memory that the vote for a Guernsey-based director had been tied and a second ballot process was declared.
As a result of the count today from the second ballot which occurred at the AMM and in-store, Mrs Williams, a programmes manager at the GTA University Centre, secured the directorship for a term of four years.
The Society’s chief executive, Colin Macleod, said: "We had a high turn out for the second ballot, which is very pleasing. It’s good to see our members engaging in the voting process. I would like to welcome Paula Williams onto our board of directors, and equally would like to thank Patricia Mellor for standing in the election."
