A varied and busy year of fundraising from RBC Wealth Management staff has resulted in a record-breaking amount going to Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.

Rock’n’ Roll Bingo, a Row-a-thon and raffling off a parking space at Gaspé House, RBC’s new offices, were just some of the activities resulting in a total of £57,824; the highest amount of funds ever raised for its nominated Charity of the Year.

Pam Aubert, Head of Fundraising & Communications at Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey said the charity was thrilled to receive so much support, ‘Throughout 2016 our fundraising team has worked with RBC’s fundraising committee and their staff have shown real motivation and drive in supporting us.

‘The funds raised by RBC will go towards our drop-in centre at the Lido Medical Centre, St Saviours Road.  We provide cancer support every step of the way to anyone touched by cancer, whether they have been diagnosed themselves or are a relative, friend or colleague of someone living with cancer. There’s a host of information available, expert help, emotional support and opportunities to ask questions about cancer, its treatment, the side effects and how it affects your life and the lives of your loved ones.’

Charley Clarke, RBC Wealth Management’s Sports & Social Charity of the Year Coordinator for 2016 said, ‘We set ourselves a target of £50,000 so we’re absolutely delighted to have beaten it. I’d like to thank everyone who supported all the fundraising events we put on during 2016. Cancer affects so many people, including some of our own staff and we are really pleased that such a large sum of money is going to a cause very close to our hearts.’

Nearly 500 people in Jersey are diagnosed with cancer each year and around 3,000 Islanders are living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey is located at Lido Medical Centre, St Saviours Rd, St Saviours, Jersey. We are open Mon – Fri 10am to 4pm.
