A record number of teams are predicted to take part in the next Guernsey FA Cup as a new sponsor for the competition is unveiled.

Rossborough Insurance has been announced as the new sponsor of the Guernsey FA Cup, signing a deal with the Guernsey FA to support the island’s pre-eminent football competition with several dozen sides expected to take part.

The Guernsey FA Cup competition is open to all senior football teams, including those from outside the Priaulx League. The first draw to decide who is playing who is likely to be made in November before the action kicks off in January.

Gary Roberts, the Guernsey FA’s chief executive officer, said Rossborough’s sponsorship had multiple benefits.

‘It adds prestige to the competition to have Rossborough, such a recognised local company, as a partner for the Guernsey FA Cup and the Guernsey FA. The sponsorship also helps us invest in all areas of grassroots football including supporting the local league and supporting clubs through delivery of coaching and educational courses,’ said Mr Roberts.

He added: ‘Last year we had 22 teams competing and we are expecting more teams this year. We’re sending out entry forms in October.’

Rossborough managing director Ian Stewart said he was looking forward to seeing the teams in action.

‘Rossborough is a keen supporter of local sport, including football. We previously supported Guernsey FC with their match day prize draw, and it’s now fantastic to be associated with the Guernsey FA Cup. We can’t wait for the action to get started, and would urge local teams to take part,’ said Mr Stewart.
