Rock to Rocque Bike Ride - save the date - 25th May 2014

The annual bike ride, now in its 21st year, has become a key event in the local fundraising calendar with all proceeds going to Les Bourgs Hospice. Last year the event exceeded all expectations, attracting 1050 cyclists – almost double the number compared with previous years – and raising a record £35,000 for the Hospice. This year organisers aim to at least equal, if not surpass last year’s results:

“The event was a massive success last year so we want to make sure people have it in their diaries early this year so that we can raise as much money as possible for the Hospice”, commented event organiser Mira Domaille.

This year, cyclists will be able to pre-register online which will avoid any potential bottlenecks on the day as Mira explained:

“Whilst we handled the increased numbers well last year – and people can still just turn up on the day - it will be easier to have an idea beforehand how many people we might expect to see. We have therefore introduced an online booking process to streamline the registration, which is now available.

We have also introduced a new starting point to avoid the Val Des Terres making it more accessible to all ages and abilities. The new start will be at the top of the Val des Terres in the Park and Ride field. The cycle ride will finish as normal at North Beach.”

The event again coincides with the last day of Ian Brown’s 30/30 Challenge when cyclists ride for one hour every day for 30 days - also raising money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

Richard Tee, Heritage Group CEO, explains why he was keen for the Group to get involved in this event:

“The Rock to Rocque is a great way for people to support an extremely worthy cause. This year in particular will be a great year to participate following on from the Hospice winning the ‘fund-raising team of the year’ category at the Guernsey Community Awards last November. A well-deserved success to build on in 2014.”

More information on the event will be available soon.
