A well known personality in Guernsey’s accountancy profession is retiring from Saffery Champness after 22 years with the firm.
Roy Angliss will be succeeded by fellow partner Jeremy Ellis as head of the Guernsey Audit and Tax partnership. Mr Angliss will continue to act as a consultant on special projects, business development and liquidations.
Mr Angliss joined Saffery Champness in 1994 after a chance meeting with one of the founding Guernsey partners and was recruited to establish an audit practice.
“In many ways the firm hasn’t changed. It has managed to retain a friendly approach whilst managing its very extensive expansion over the period. When I joined Saffery Champness the audit team was in its infancy as it was predominantly a trust company but now we have a thriving audit team,” he said.
As sole audit partner for many years, Mr Angliss worked with all of the firm’s clients which are predominantly in the financial services sector; including funds, captive insurers, fiduciary businesses and property structures. Mr Angliss has also helped to develop the Partnership’s expertise in auditing Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed clients. He was also the Guernsey firm’s finance director for 10 years.
“I have so enjoyed building the audit business and dealing with some excellent clients over the years. On a personal note it has been great to make some good friendships with people across the firm.”
Mr Angliss says he will miss clients and colleagues at the firm but he is confident that the audit practice is in good hands under Jeremy Ellis’ direction.
“Saffery Champness has, and always has had, staff who have been loyal and of a high quality. It also benefits from the support it gets from the UK practice of the firm. It’s been a great place to work.”
A familiar face on the golf course and a big sports fan, he is optimistic that he can improve his game and plans, with his wife Lindsey, on more frequent trips to the UK to attend Test matches and support Oxford United.
Jeremy Ellis who has worked alongside Mr Angliss for many years said “Roy has played a major part in shaping a successful audit practice which is going from strength to strength. We wish him a very happy retirement.”
Saffery Champness continues to expand its Audit and Tax Practice and expects to have around 20 employees by the end of 2016.
