The Guernsey Motor Festival has announced a major sponsor for this year's event, to be held over two weekends in July.

RUBiS Channel Islands has come on board to support the Festival, which is growing and looks set to become one of the biggest events on the Island's calendar, featuring racing, exhibitions, parades and static displays.

New for this year is the RUBiS Soapbox Challenge which will see teams and individuals pit their wits against each other, testing their engineering, design and driving skills in a race around a fantastic course in the heart of St Peter Port. The event, being held on Sunday 10th July, is open to everyone though soapboxes have to conform to strict criteria. The course starts at the Bordage and runs all the way to Church Square, via twists, turns and ramps and providing an excellent spectacle for the crowds that are expected to turn out.

The organisers of the event, now in its second year, are building on the huge success of 2015. Karl Marshall of Guernsey Motor Festival said: "We have had a lot of support from the public, and from the St Peter Port authorities to get this event moving. Last year was a triumph and 2016 will be even bigger and better. That wouldn't be possible without the backing of our sponsors and we are very pleased to have leading brand such as RUBiS associated with the Festival."

RUBiS is a significant supporter of motor racing and events in the Channel Islands, including the Jersey International Motoring Festival in June.

Nick Crolla, Head of Sales & Marketing said: "We have a long and proud heritage of serving the Channel Islands and we believe in recognising the loyalty of our communities by putting something back. We support many charity, sporting and community initiatives in Jersey and Guernsey, but we particularly have a recognised affiliation with motoring events. We were really taken with the idea of a Soapbox Challenge; it is a great community initiative which is open to everyone. The Festival promises to be a fantastic event for all islanders whether taking part or spectating, and we wish good luck to everyone involved."
