Children and staff from St Sampson’s High School raised enough money through their annual West Coast Challenge to fund two learning programmes for another year.
More than 500 children took part in the 11-mile sponsored walk from Pleinmont to Pembroke, which raised more than £6,000 to extend the Accelerated Reader Programme and Show My Homework scheme.
Assistant headteacher, Liz Dale, thanked sponsors Rossborough, which gave each pupil a drawstring bag containing a foldable water bottle.
‘It’s fantastic to have the continued support of Rossborough for what has become an extremely popular annual event. This year everyone is saying it was the best one yet, and we certainly had good weather and happy children and staff,’ said Ms Dale.
‘Everyone used their squishy water bottles and bags, which the school’s PTA put some healthy snacks in. It’s always great to have the bright blue bags as it makes it easier to see where all the children are.’
As well as funding the learning programmes, the funds raised by the walk allowed the school to top up the library with new Accelerated Reader books.
Ian Stewart, managing director at Rossborough Guernsey, said: ‘At Rossborough we always aim to ensure our support helps as many people as possible and the West Coast Challenge does just that. Not only does it allow the whole school to come together in a healthy activity but provides much needed funding for valuable learning initiatives. We wouldn’t hesitate in sponsoring the initiative again next year.’
