Waitrose will be helping to provide Christmas lunch for elderly, homeless and vulnerable people in their local community.
This year, both Waitrose branches raised a combined total of £1,419 through its Community Matters green token scheme to support local community groups - the Salvation Army and the Women’s Refuge.
The Admiral Park branch will be working with the Salvation Army to support its Christmas lunch at L’Islet on Christmas Day while the Rohais branch is assisting the Women’s Refuge to host a lunch for service users and their children, providing a host of food, decorations, crackers and presents.
Waitrose will be supporting a variety of events across the UK, with thousands of people set to benefit. At this sociable time of the year, the campaign is aimed at people who would otherwise be on their own at Christmas.
Waitrose branch manager for Admiral Park, Ian Burdekin, said: “It is fantastic that our Waitrose branches are supporting two organisations to ensure that people are not alone at Christmas.
“Our Partners are really excited about the events and looking forward to working with both local causes to spread a little Christmas cheer within the island and make a difference.”
Major James Hill, Corps Officers for the Salvation Army, said: “The Salvation Army in Guernsey is providing a Christmas Day programme for 60 people who would otherwise be spending Christmas Day alone.
“Thanks to the help of Waitrose we are able to provide our guests not only with a three course Christmas lunch but also send them home with a gift and some festive goodies to enjoy on Christmas evening.
“The Salvation Army would like to thank Waitrose and their customers for the help and support they give which enables us to give this extra support at Christmas time.”
