Video game giant Activision Blizzard has unveiled a wave of new features for its eSports platform – with major tournaments set to be streamed live on Facebook.

The publisher behind Call Of Duty and Destiny is bringing the enhancements to its MLG.tv platform, including real-time match stats, live leaderboards, commentary and in-game analysis.

Coverage will launch on Facebook Live next month from the MLG Anaheim Open, with action set to be broadcast direct from MLG’s Facebook page.

The Anaheim event is a two-day Call Of Duty: Black Ops III tournament starting on June 10. It will feature COD World League teams and dozens of amateur teams competing head-to-head for a $100,000 prize pool.

Activision Blizzard launched the upgrades at the Digital NewFronts conference in New York and also announced that commentator and retired pro gamer Chris Puckett will be fronting a daily MLG show with news and interviews.

The company – which also has major eSports titles like StarCraft II and Heroes of the Storm in its stable – bought live event organizer Major League Gaming for $46 million at the start of the year and says it wants to be the “ESPN of eSports”.

So expect to see a lot more cool moments like this popping up in your timeline…
