A vote on the Government’s £56.5m proposed package of measures to help islanders deal with the cost of living crisis due to take place next week has been pushed back in the wake of Her Majesty’s death.
States Members were due to have their first sitting after the summer break next Tuesday.
Alongside the 'mini budget', debates on bringing the minimum wage in line with the Living Wage and the composition of the controversial Rent Control Tribunal were also due to take place next week.
However, States Members this afternoon agreed with Constable Karen Shenton Stone – who, as Chair of the Privileges and Procedures Committee is responsible for organising the running of States Assembly meetings – that the meeting should not go ahead during the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.
This, the Assembly was told, was in line with other jurisdictions.
Video: The decision to postpone the debates was taken at the end of a Special Sitting of the States Assembly today, in which numerous tributes were paid to Her Majesty.
The next ceremonial States Assembly meeting will take place on Sunday, with the official Proclamation of Charles III as King.
Debates on legislation will now be pushed back for one week, to Tuesday 20 September.
