60 young Scouts have recently completed a challenge designed to raise awareness of the small changes that can be made in daily life to help the environment.
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their families were given a wide range of challenges including energy-saving tasks, using alternative transport, reusing and recycling, shopping for food sustainably, and eating less meat.
Each task allowed the participants to pick up points across the weeks, and members shared photos of their efforts including cooking vegetarian meals, taking part in beach cleans, helping with Olio deliveries, visiting the recycling centre, and car-pooling with friends.

Julia Brown, the Group Secretary who organised the challenge, said: “It was fantastic to see so many young members and their families taking part. They put in a huge effort throughout the challenge and some even continued after, adapting their habits, which is what it’s all about.”
Thomas Cohu, Theo Springett, Celia Hamon-Reid, and Hugo and Charlie Watson achieved the highest number of points.
They were all awarded with a WWF annual membership and goodie bags, donated by St Brelade’s College who sponsored the event.

Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Deputy Hilary Jeune also attended the prize-giving ceremony last week and congratulated the winners on their impressive contributions towards climate change.
