One of Jersey’s most iconic buildings is set to be transformed with a large-scale artwork celebrating the Polish, Portuguese and Romanian communities’ contributions to island life.
Internationally renowned muralist Gabriel Pitcher – whose works have previously adorned buildings in locations ranging from London to Malaysia and South Korea - will be unveiling a fresco across Normans’ 600m² façade on 13 June 2022.
Created in partnership with Wood Street Walls CIC, the work will be inspired by ArtHouse Jersey's 'Home' residency project.

'Home' saw artists Cliff Andrade (Portugal), Natalia Kalicki (Poland) and Dana Olărescu (Romania) visit the island, get to know their compatriots and create a work based on each community's experiences of living in Jersey.
Gabriel Pitcher, who is connected to the parish of Grouville via his paternal roots, beat off competition from "extremely strong and fascinating" applications from muralists around the world, according to ArtHouse Director Tom Dingle.
Describing Mr Pitcher's work as "showstopping" and "socially engaged", Mr Dingle added: "The fact that he has a personal familial immigration story to explore in Jersey made the selection feel even more fitting. Norman's frontage couldn't be in better artistic hands."

Normans' Operations Director, Tim Darwin, added: "Normans has been a part of Island life since 1840, and with this mural being a highly visible landmark that celebrates Jersey's immigrant communities' contribution to Jersey, it's something we're proud to be associated with."
