A woman in her 60s remains in intensive care following a serious car fire in St. Saviour on Tuesday afternoon.
All three emergency services were called to Grande Route de St Martin yestrday at around 15:00 after a blue Mini Cooper and a black Fiat Panda collided.
The 67-year-old female driver of the black Fiat Panda was unconscious at the scene of the crash and taken to hospital where she remains in a critical but stable condition.
The driver of the blue Mini Cooper – a male in his 30s – was seen by paramedics on the scene and taken to the Emergency Department.
He was later discharged from hospital alongside two children who were also in the car with him.
Both cars caught on fire as a result of the collision – which occurred around at the junction of Rue des Pingneaux and Fosse á L’Écrivain – but were both extinguished by 15:30 and later towed away.
The fuel spillage was cleaned from the road, which reopened at around 21:30 on Tuesday night.
Elise Schofield, who works at nearby riding centre Happy Hooves, saw plumes of black smoke rising after the crash.
"While at work we heard the screeching of breaks being applied which caught our attention, then followed by any almighty bang, seconds later loads of shouting and screaming," she said.
"Then the sirens of many emergency services. The fire didn’t break out till a good five minutes at least to which we could just see flumes of black smoke billowing over the houses near by."
A dog walker who was also in the area at the time of the collision described hearing a "loud bang" before the blaze broke out.
"...We had just finished our round and were dropping the dogs home. The Emergency Services were there fast and [a nearby] school bus was emptied," she explained.
"All the kids were screaming and there was just so much black smoke.
"We were quickly diverted by a few civilians along another route."
