The Acorn depot at La Collette is closing permanently next month, with the charity consolidating all collections at its Trinity base.
The purpose-built Acorn Reuse Centre at the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at La Collette opened in 2017, with the charity partnering with the Government to help reduce the amount of waste going into the incinerator.
Reusable items were collected by Acorn staff, which is the commercial arm of the Jersey Employment Trust, and taken to its main site by Trinity Church, where they were repaired, if necessary, and resold.
However, on its Facebook page, Acorn wrote: “Lockdown caused us to change the way we worked, which unexpectedly proved to be more efficient, with more goods than ever being donated."

The last collections will be taken at La Collette over the weekend of 9 and 10 October. After that, all donations of unwanted items will need to be dropped off in Trinity.
Acorn is one of the beneficiaries of the Government’s Fiscal Stimulus Fund, being awarded £808,336 in the first tranche of the £50m fund to build a “collections, processing and delivery hub to improve donations operations and provide additional employment opportunities.”
Acorn estimates that this investment will allow them to increase their revenue by £253,400 a year and create a minimum of 10 paid jobs and 60 training opportunities for people with disabilities, long-term health conditions and people being supported by the Back to Work scheme.
