Airline fails days before take-off

Tuesday 05 February 2019

An airline promising locals direct flights to Tenerife has collapsed just days before its first flight of the season was due to take off.

As of this morning, Germania has filed for insolvency and ceased all flying operations.

Their first departure from Jersey had been due to take off this Saturday, with flights continuing into April as part of CI Travel Group’s new ‘FlyDirect’ programme.

The travel provider this morning said in a statement that it was searching for an "alternative airline to operate the flights".

This afternoon, it said that it was "close to concluding" its search for a new airline and expects to confirm the new provider tomorrow.

"CITG appreciates that today's announcement has created uncertainty for its clients and is working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible. The company has remained in contact with all those affected and will provide a further update tomorrow," it added.
