Another Minister steps down after over a decade of States service

Housing Minister Deputy Anne Pryke has announced that she will not stand for re-election after 12 years in the States Assembly.

The Minister, who represents the Parish of Trinity and also currently holds responsibility for Education, said that her decision came “after a great deal of consideration.”

“I feel the time is right to spend time with my family, friends, and my Church. I also look forward to having more time to get involved within the community,” she commented.

Deputy Pryke first stepped into the States Chamber in 2005, and was re-elected in 2008, 2011 and 2014.

Over the years, she has worked across a number of Ministerial Departments, including Environment, Infrastructure, Health and most recently Housing, which has involved overseeing Andium Homes developments.

During her tenure, she pledged that 1,000 new homes would be built to fit the island’s growing demand by 2020.

Last month, the Minister also became the Minister for Education, after Deputy Rod Bryans was forced to “step aside” while he was officially investigated over a conduct complaint against him.

Deputy Pryke is also a member of the States Employment Board.

Speaking about her time working in the States, she added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Office and I would like to thank all those who have supported me over the years.

“I would also like to thank my States Members colleagues and especially the staff I have had the privilege to work with, who are dedicated to giving the best service for our island.”

She is the third member of the Council of Ministers to confirm that they are not running again. Infrastructure Minister Deputy Eddie Noel was the first to confirm, followed by Senator Paul Routier, the Assistant Minister with responsibility for population policy.
