Monday 15 January 2024

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery at a local supermarket – which was foiled by a customer who chased the masked intruder out of the store.

The incident took place at Morrisons Daily on Queen’s Road around 18:40 on Friday (12 January).

"Whilst there, he tried to steal money by threatening one of the cashiers and a customer who was being served," officers explained.

"When the alarm was raised the male ran from the premises, chased by the customer, and headed up Queen's Road.

"He was last seen by the junction of Queen's Road and St John's Road.

"He did not manage to steal anything and no one was harmed."

Describing the suspect as between 5'10" and 6' tall and of slim build, police added that he "was wearing a black balaclava/ski mask, a black long-sleeved top with grey patterned/camouflage arms, grey camouflaged trousers, brown boots and black gloves".

He was also said to be carrying a white plastic bag.

Just under 48 hours after the incident, on Sunday evening, police confirmed that they had arrested a 22-year-old man.

However, they are still appealing to members of the public for more information.
