This week's Art Fix features something for everyone! Those with an artistic flair can get involved in a charity Creativity Festival, whilst the sportier types can race in the Durrell Dash. Historians have a last chance to explore Durrell's Museum of Bones, and will also be delighted to hear about Jersey Heritage's extended winter opening hours...
Every weekend, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.
Here's this week's offering...
Kairos Arts creates and facilitates therapeutic arts workshops by providing a safe place where participants are able to express and explore their feelings, hopes, joys and fears through the creative arts. Their aim is to encourage participants to explore positive emotional qualities, develop their understanding of themselves and others, and find creative solutions to obstacles.
The charity is holding a Creativity Festival this weekend, in partnership with St. Andrew's Church. The festival is a homage to creativity in Jersey and a celebration of the power of the arts to bring about hope and restoration.
The event will be held on Saturday 5 November at St. Andrew's Church and will include stalls, a gallery, creative workshops, and refreshments.
This popular fun run will take place on Sunday 6 November, starting and finishing at Jersey Zoo, with a 6K or 12K route through the lanes of Trinity. New for this year is the family-friendly 2.6K course for runners aged eight and over.
The event organisers are encouraging runners of all abilities to sign up for this spooktacular running event and get into the Halloween spirit by running in fancy dress and paying a visit to the Museum of Bones after the race.
Alexandra Shears, Durrell’s Director of Communications and Fundraising, said: “We are so excited to welcome runners back to the Durrell Dash this year. Along with our event sponsor, Rathbones, we hope to see as many ghosts and ghouls as possible taking to the lanes of Trinity for this Halloween-themed fun run.
"Brand new at the zoo this October Half Term is the Museum of Bones, which we encourage everyone to come and explore after the run! We hope the public will feel inspired to take part and raise funds for Durrell’s work saving some of the world’s rarest animals.”
Special prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraiser and best-dressed Dasher, so be sure to dust off your broomsticks, wear your spookiest Halloween outfits or even come dressed as your favourite nocturnal animal!
After the race, all runners will receive an exclusive finisher medal, refreshments at the finish line, and free entry to Jersey Zoo to enjoy the final day of the Musuem of Bones, as well as exploring the beautiful grounds and meeting some of the zoo’s newest residents.
Shakespeare’s work has been translated into 80 languages, from Arabic to Albanian and Yakut to Zulu. You'll find him everywhere; on laptops in Lapland, on bookshelves in Brazil and on stage in Slovenia. You'll hear his words pop up in pop songs, being quoted in movies, and spoken on the street.
Feisty Goat Theatre Company brings you Much Ado About Shakespeare (Or All the Best Bits!). Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear; all the best-known scenes and characters performed in an evening celebrating Shakespeare’s ‘greatest hits’.
Director, Rhona Richards, explained “We’re focusing on the scenes and speeches that people know and love. Shakespeare writes about love, loss, greed, revenge, war and a myriad of other human emotions and experiences that we all encounter in some respect during our life. We have a cast of ten local actors who are all experienced at playing Shakespeare and know how to bring his work to life in an accessible and relatable way.”
The performance is being held in aid of Dementia Jersey, a charity which supports people with dementia, friends, family and carers. Tickets are priced at £15 and £12 (concessions) and are available from Jersey Arts Centre box office or online.
Tonight is your last chance to see ArtsCentreTheatre's trilogy of original one-act plays, each directed by a different member of ACT. The plays are linked but separate, each featuring members of the same family at three significant moments in their lives: a birth, a wedding (just the one) and a funeral.
As everyone knows, these three important occasions can sometimes be the only times that all, (or, at least most) of the members and generations of a family make the journey from the four corners of the circular globe to come together in one place for a shindig. As such, they are an emotional cauldron in which ancient grievances, imagined slights, generational differences and dissatisfaction with the catering bubble to the surface and erupt in the most spectacular fashion. So, strap yourselves in; it’s going to be three very bumpy rides.
Hatched, Matched & Dispatched's final night is Friday 5 November at 7:30pm at the Arts Centre. The play contains adult themes, strong language and is unsuitable for under 13s. Tickets can be purchased online.
Local filmmakers are being given the chance to have their work screened at ArtHouse Jersey's nights of underground short films with Exploding Cinema on the 3-4 December.

Jersey Arts Centre is excited to be hosting the world-renowned Dudok Quartet Amsterdam next week on Tuesday 8 November.
The quartet, who will be playing in Jersey for the first time and flying in from Amsterdam for the occasion, will be playing a selection of Mozart and Tchaikovsky.
The Dudok Quartet Amsterdam is forging a reputation as one of the most creative and versatile quartets of its generation. With its ethos of ‘sharing the heart of music’, the quartet is committed to crafting unique and eclectic programmes that engage listeners in new and imaginative ways.

From Thursday 20 October to Sunday 6 November, Museum of Bones will display a range of fascinating skeletons and skulls. You’ll have a bone-afide thrill at this limited-edition enchanted exhibition!
There are many surprises instore. This skeleton party offers enthralling excavation digs and amazing ancient artefacts. Don’t forget, the primate skulls will be watching you too!
This fang-tastic event finishes on Sunday at the Durrell Discovery Centre. Entry is free for members and normal admissions apply for non-members.
