An exhibition has taken over the streets of St Helier for the next two weeks that showcases powerful images captured by Rohingya refugees.
Every weekend, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.
Here's this week's offering...
An exhibition portraying the plight of the Rohingya refugee community has taken over the streets of St Helier for two weeks.
The Rohingya Experience launched this week at the Jersey Arts Centre, with talks from representatives of the UN refugee agency UNHCR and Jersey Overseas Aid on Tuesday.
The photographs, taken by a unique group of refugee photographers known as the Rohingyatographer group, highlight the lives and struggles of the Rohingya community.
The Rohingyatographer group is based in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, where they have transformed the experience of their community from one of victimhood to resilience and self-preservation.
Their images have been displayed at locations around St Helier, including Liberation Square, West’s Centre, Charing Cross, the Cenotaph, and along King and Queen Street.
The exhibition, curated by David Palazón and Sahat Zia Hero, has been organised by Jersey Overseas Aid, which has supported the 700,000-strong Rohingya community since they fled violence seven years ago to begin a new life in camps in the neighbouring country.
A multidisciplinary exhibition showcasing the work of contemporary French, Jersey and Guernsey-based artists will go on display next week.
Art House Jersey is presenting works by artists Yasmin Atkinson (Guernsey), Veronique Bésnard and Naomi West (France/Jersey), Nolwenn Brod (France), Estelle Chaigne (France) and Louise London (Jersey).
It is produced with the support of Guernsey Arts, Les Ateliers du Vent, L’Institut Français et de Ville de Rennes, and the Government of Jersey.
The exhibition launched in Rennes on Friday 31 May and will make its way over to Guernsey after the exhibition in Jersey, which is being held in Captial House
Alongside the exhibition, ArtHouse Jersey is hosting a series of events from leading contemporary French artists as part of the French Season 2024.
On 12 July, contemporary French and Channel Islands-based artists will walk through the Capital House exhibition space, discussing their processes and inspiration.
On 18 July, there will be a double-bill of performances by Paris-based sound artist and composer Camille Lacroix. This is inspired by research around a text by Marcel Duchamp, which explores recycling body movements through forms of sonic energy.
From 19-20 July, a new work by French choreographer Jérôme Bel will be presented for two nights at Greve de Lecq Barracks, performed by islander Terry O’Connor.
On 25 July, a solo theatre performance called "Self-Portrait to My Grandmother" about history, queerness and Breton language and culture based from the mystical history of the village of Saint-Jean-du-Doigt in Finistère will be presented at the Jersey museums.

The event, which is sponsored by the Creative Island Partnership, has been co-organised by the Alliance Française, ArtHouse Jersey, Jersey Opera House and La Maison.

An amateur theatre group is set to present Shakespeare's 'As You Like It' in the gardens of Samarès Manor.

The CCA Galleries International has launched its eighth Jersey Summer Exhibition which features 130 pieces by 70 artists.
This annual event, inspired by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London, has become a key part of Jersey's art calendar since it began in 2016.
The Jersey Summer Exhibition runs until Friday 26 July at CCA Galleries International on Hill Street.
Islanders are being encouraged to take part in the '30 Bays in 30 Days' challenge to raise money for charity, following a decline in participants in recent years.
The challenge launched in 2016 and has become an annual tradition in which islanders of all ages are asked to swim a minimum of 30 strokes in 30 different bays.
Money raised from the challenge will go to the National Trust for Jersey, which protects local land and historic buildings, and Jersey Hospice Care, which offers specialist palliative care to all Islanders with life-limiting illnesses.
Swimmers have flexibility in how they complete the challenge; they can visit 30 different bays or swim 30 times in their favourite location.
The event officially runs from June 30 to July 31, but swimmers can extend into August if needed.
Registration fees are £15 for adults and £7.50 for children.
More information and registration details are available online.
