ART FIX: Ready to grooooOOOOoove?

Thursday 31 October 2024

Halloween celebrations aren't quite over yet, with a spooktacular day disco among the cultural offerings happening this weekend.

Every weekend, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.

Here's what's coming up...

Bunkers by torchlight

Islanders are being invited to join the Channel Islands Occupation Society in a Halloween open bunker day at Strongpoint Corbière from 19:00 to 21:00 this evening (Friday 1 November).

Attendees will be able to experience one of the landmark M19 fortress mortar and machine gun turret bunkers used in the Second World War in eerie torchlight.

Volunteers will be on-hand to guide guests around the restored bunkers which display accurate information about soldiers who used the bunkers and the forced labourers who built them.

No booking is required... but torches are!

Islanders are also able to trick and treat themselves to an evening of musical bingo fun at Chambers this Friday 1 November.

Prizes will be on offer over six games before local bands 88 Bunkface and Claymore for The Night of The Riffing Dead top things off with live music for the rest of the night.

Space for bingo is limited, book your spot by calling 01534 735405.

Over-30s who love a nightclub but hate the late nights are in for a spooky treat this Saturday (2 November).

Entertainment company Day Disco has organised an 80s-themed Halloween party at Vittoria, with DJs promising terrifyingly terrific anthems from 15:00 to 20:30.

Fancy dress is recommended, and tickets can be booked here.

Dancing Together: A Ballad

Anyone who missed the outdoor installation of artist Kaarine Kaikkonen's public artwork 'Dancing Together: A Ballad' in Charing Cross can head to Capital House for an indoor re-imagining of the exhibit.

700 shirts donated by islanders who shared stories for each garment will be on display every day from 10:30 to 18:00 until Sunday 1 December.

Supported by Butterfield, Kaarina will also be hosting a free artist talk, reflecting on the work and her four-decade-long career, at Capital House tonight at 18:00.

Live at the Barracks

Two local artists, Sam Temple and Jasmine Derrien will be performing solo shows at Greve de Lecq Barracks this weekend as part of ArtHouse Jersey's 'Live at the Barracks' programme.

Using their own experiences, the young singer-songwriters will perform separate intimate performances on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 November at 19:30.

Differing in style, you can learn more about each of them and buy tickets for their gigs here.

SCOOP Celebrations

The Sustainable Cooperative, SCOOP, are welcoming islanders to their free community event this Saturday, taking place at at St Brelade's Church Hall from 18:00.

Celebrating their anniversary and their work supporting sustainable food production in Jersey, the free event will feature live music and delicious food.
