Bailey hits the royal jackpot

Tuesday 23 June 2015

Young Bailey Michael Blance doesn’t look too excited at meeting Assistant Health Minister Peter Maclinton – but he might be a little more impressed by the £100 gift he was given to mark the fact that he was born on the same day as Princess Charlotte.

Bailey was born on 2 May to proud parents Alison and Lee of St Lawrence, and has a six-year-old sister called Maddison. On the same day in west London, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge entered the world as the second child of Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and became fourth-in-line to the British throne.

The presentation of a framed £100 Jersey note was made on Friday, with Treasury Minister Alan Maclean, Health Minister Andrew Green, Assistant Treasury Minister Tracey Vallois and Assistant Health Minister Peter Mclinton all grabbing the chance to do some political baby-kissing.

Senator Maclean’s relieved smile is probably down to the fact that he only had to find one £100 note for the presentation – on a typical day three babies are born in Jersey, but only one birth coincided with the arrival of Princess Charlotte.
