Bailiwick Radio joining new digital radio network

Friday 06 August 2021

Bailiwick Radio is joining the 20-plus stations available on the new digital radio network which launched earlier this week in the Channel Islands.

Bailiwick Radio has been providing hourly news bulletins since August 2019 online, through the app, and on smart devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Earlier this year, the station added news podcasts - available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Deezer and Whooshkaa - to its offering.

With the launch of DAB multiplexes in the Channel Islands, Bailiwick Radio will soon be available to more listeners, with its stations being added to the DAB multiplex in the coming days. Other local stations are also joining the new DAB network that will broadcast all services in DAB+.

“Having been responsible for promoting digital radio a decade ago in the UK, it gives me particular pleasure to switch on not only local services on DAB here but also a wide range of national stations like VirginRadio which we previously couldn’t receive,” Tony Moretta, Chief Executive of Digital Jersey said.

“Jersey has the second fastest broadband in the world so it’s about time we got the latest radio technology as well!”

To mark Virgin Radio’s new transmissions to the Channel Islands via the network, The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky was broadcast live from the island yesterday morning.

He was joined by co-presenters Vassos Alexander, Rachel Horne and the team, who went live from Nude Food at the Beach between 07:00 and 10:00.

Local ambassadors also joined the show, including Jersey historian Nicky Mansell, Phil Le Maistre from Master Farms and Nude Food's owner, Lucy Morris.

Chris and his team also tried out SUP yoga on-air with Rebecca Taylor, cider tasting with Sarah Matlock of La Robeline Cider, oyster tasting with Shannon Le Seelleur from Seymour Oysters and enjoyed The Jersey Catch with skipper Josh Dearing.
