Beaulieu teacher arrested for indecent assault

Thursday 01 October 2015

A teacher from Beaulieu Convent School is being investigated on suspicion of committing an indecent assault.

The teacher – who is suspended from work – was arrested a fortnight ago, but the police and the school have only just confirmed that the investigation is taking place.

A statement from the police this morning said: “The States of Jersey Police can confirm that they have commenced a criminal investigation into the actions of a teacher from Beaulieu Convent School.

“The teacher was arrested on the 18th September on suspicion of indecent assault.

“The States of Jersey Police are not in a position to say any more at this time.”

Beaulieu has more than 760 students from the ages of four to 18, and has been running since 1951.

The Catholic school has fees of £1,815 per term.

A statement from Chris Beirne, the Headmaster of the school, said that they were taking the investigation very seriously.

He said: “Beaulieu School has confirmed that a member of staff has been suspended following an arrest to allow for a police investigation to take place in relation to an alleged assault.

“This is not a disciplinary sanction at this time and our action does not imply any assumption that the staff member is guilty of any misconduct, but the suspension was a necessary step whilst the school awaits the findings from the police investigation and undertakes its own internal disciplinary investigation.

“Beaulieu takes matters of this kind extremely seriously and the school is currently working hard to address the situation as quickly as possible, whilst ensuring that due process is adhered to.

“It is not possible for the school to comment further on this matter at this time.”
