What do an 80s detective and DJ have in common? Both feature in what could be the hottest record to hit island dancefloors this summer - an ambitious crossover of Bergerac and bass.
Visit Jersey has partnered with a multi-instrumentalist to present a new take on the iconic Bergerac soundtrack which embraces the nostalgia around the famous TV show and celebrates the island’s revival as a top escape destination.
‘Bergerac Remastered’ sees Youngr turn the original BAFTA award-winning soundtrack into a modern electronic instrumental – with strong beats, exhilarant synth and a ripping summer base.
In the accompanying video, the artist celebrates Jersey’s soundscape in locations filmed across the island. He is seen playing on top of Gorey Castle, on a bunker in St. Ouen's bay, inside the caves at Plémont, by Corbière and even in a field surrounded by Jersey cows.
The sounds on the track aim to reflect the fun and relaxing escape that is Jersey as it heads into the summer months.
Last year, Jersey saw its busiest summer season in over a decade and Visit Jersey says 2018 looks set to be no different with a strong line up of music and sporting events set amongst "a breath-taking backdrop the island’s stunning landscapes, beaches, history and fresh produce."

Adam Caerlewy-Smith, Head of Marketing at Visit Jersey, said: “Youngr’s take on the anthemic TV theme tune is brilliant. The new track and music video nod to a unique piece of our pop-culture history, Bergerac, whilst celebrating all that makes Jersey the perfect short break escape that itis today. We’ve enjoyed tapping into a bit of nostalgia and feel that the track and video show how Jersey is as relevant and current as ever.”
Youngr commented: “I’ve always been intrigued by the Channel Islands, but this was the first time I’ve visited Jersey – and it blew me away.
"Having developed ‘Bergerac Remastered’ in the studio, it was incredible to get over to the island to capture the visual backdrop for the track and experience first-hand the stunning sights, sounds and history that make Jersey. I’m excited to inspire people to get over there and check it out!”

In the eighties and early nineties, crime drama Bergerac regularly attracted viewing figures in excess of 13 million a week. Whilst the ‘Bergerac Effect’ did an excellent job showing off the sights close to 40 years ago, Visit Jersey wants to showcase the island now and celebrate its current tourism renaissance.
Last summer, Jersey Heritage celebrated the TV show and all things 80s with an exhibition at Jersey Museum. 'Bergerac's Island - Jersey in the 1980s' is open until 31 December.
