There’s a new man behind the bar at the Island's big beer festival opening in People’s Park tomorrow lunchtime.
Dwayne Palmer is calling the shots at the CAMRA Jersey 27th Summer Beer Festival and is hoping to convert the lager drinker.
He said: “I’d like to sell the festival to lager drinkers, that’s my aim. Obviously the ale enthusiasts are our number 1 customer when they come through the door. For me a beer festival is about trying to convert a lager drinker into some real beer, to step away from all those chemicals and to start realising that the hops are there for everybody and every pint of ale is different.
“There’s so much beer out there to try.”
Dwayne is expecting up to 6,000 people at the bar during the three day festival and with over a hundred ales to choose from this year, there really should be something to suit everyone’s tastebuds. There are also around 20 real ciders and perries from Gwynt-y-ddraig, Mr Whiteheads and Hogan’s Cider, continental beers and lagers from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Japan and the USA as well as a choice of wines for those who don’t fancy a pint.
Liberation Brewery’s Flying Ruck - their rugby world cup ale - is being launched at the Festival when you can also catch England’s first big match.
Dwayne said: “The reason I tell people to come to a beer festival is the variety of beer that we’ve got on sale. If you go into a pub, you get two or three different beers to choose from to choose from or six if you’re lucky.
“When we’ve got over 100 different varieties of ale to choose from there’s such a wide variety you can really test your taste buds against what you really like.”
The bar is open from midday until 11pm tomorrow and the same again on Friday and Saturday with Friday night likely to be the busiest.
It’ll cost you £3 to get in before 5pm and £5 after and is free for all card carrying CAMRA members.
