The woman behind the Big Gig in the Park is to take on a voluntary role monitoring the state of the prison and its inmates’ wellbeing.
Caroline Strachan (pictured), whose annual charity music fest last year brought Olly Murs and Holly Johnson to the island and will this year see Craig David grace the Howard Davis Park stage, was this month selected to become a member of the Independent Prison Monitoring Board.
Appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs, Mrs Strachan’s new role will see her make frequent visits to HM Prison La Moye to check on the premises’ conditions and ensure that prisoners’ human rights are being observed and upheld.

She will be joined in the position by the JFSC’s Andrea John – a financial services professional of more than a decade – who was also recently appointed.
Both women will remain on the board for four years.
A report detailing the appointments stated: “These appointments bring the number of Members to 11 and strengthen the important work of the Board in providing independent oversight of HMP La Moye.”

The Independent Prison Monitoring Board was set up last year to replace the previous ‘Prison Board of Visitors’, which was comprised of jurats.
It is chaired by Andrew Baudains, with Lesley Toms as Deputy Chair.
