The woman behind the Big Gig in the Park is to take on a voluntary role monitoring the state of the prison and its inmates’ wellbeing.

Caroline Strachan (pictured), whose annual charity music fest last year brought Olly Murs and Holly Johnson to the island and will this year see Craig David grace the Howard Davis Park stage, was this month selected to become a member of the Independent Prison Monitoring Board.

Appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs, Mrs Strachan’s new role will see her make frequent visits to HM Prison La Moye to check on the premises’ conditions and ensure that prisoners’ human rights are being observed and upheld.
