St Catherine’s Breakwater Café has re-opened today after having part of its roof blown off in the strong winds.
The Café was forced to close at 15:00 yesterday – two hours earlier than usual - when the extended part of the seating area’s roof pulled away, while customers and staff were inside.
The building was, "...shaking all morning, and it got worse and worse" according to staff.
Jersey Met released an orange weather warning yesterday morning, with winds getting up to severe F9 gales. Café manager Natalie Reynolds described the moment the roof came away as, "...vicious. The roof popped off bit by bit. We got everybody out quickly."
Jersey Police warned the public what had happened on Twitter.
St Catherine’s Breakwater Café is back open this morning because the seating area affected has been locked off.
Ms Reynolds told Express, “…it doesn’t look very attractive. The roof looks like a sail, and it’s all collapsed."
Builders are visiting the café today to try to mend the damage, but it is still open.
