A local café has praised the generosity of customers taking part in its “pay it forward” scheme after it helped hundreds of people in need to receive pre-paid food or drink.
The Butterfly Café – which opened its doors to islanders last year – announced the initiative in January.
The scheme enables customers to buy something on the menu and “pay it forward”, with the receipt printed and kept in an accessible area where someone in need can pick it up and receive the pre-paid food or drink for free.

Customers can pay forward for anything from a cup of tea to the entire menu, or pay forward money so that someone can choose their own meal.
In an update this week, the team revealed that the scheme has helped hundreds of people since it was launched.
Speaking to Express, Cheyenne O’Connor of the Butterfly Café said there were still "loads" of customers supporting the initiative on a regular basis.
"We have people that will just walk in to do a pay it forward," she said.
"There's always going to be people struggling so we will definitely keep it going."
