Cash boost to help bring in more tourists to Jersey

Are you planning an event or project which will attract more visitors to the Island? – if so, you could get help from the States to fund it.

The Tourism Development Fund gives a cash boost to local schemes which are likely to increase visitor numbers particularly in the shoulder months and which can attract funding from other sources, help create jobs locally and will be sustainable in the future.

The fund has made over 115 grants over the last decade totalling in excess of £5.6 million.  Last year it gave out almost half a million pounds to various projects including £115,000 to help restore the outdoor pool at West Park, £100,000 to the Branchage Film Festival, £4,545 to St Brelade’s College to attract Russian language students to study in the Island and £31,000 to the Jersey Tourist Guide Association to train up their Blue Badge Guides.

The Chairman of the Tourism Development Fund Peter Funk said: “Tourism is vital to our economy and the role of the Tourism Development Fund is to support the industry. The fund’s panel are delighted that we are able to consider applications from private as well as non-profit organisations or individuals with good ideas that will bring more visitors to Jersey and improve our already rich tourism offering.  We look forward to receiving some exciting proposals.”

The closing date for applications is Friday 18 April and a panel will look at all the applications by the end of June.
