Cause of death still unknown for woman found on beach

Tuesday 22 May 2018

A post mortem examination on the body of a woman found on Le Pulec beach has failed to identify a cause of death, the police have said.

While the body still hasn't been formally identified, the police "strongly believe" it is that of missing 37- year-old Zsuzsanna Besenyei.

Zsuzsanna was last seen on the evening on Thursday 10 May. The police launched an appeal after recovering her car – a blue Ford Fiesta Ghia with the registration number J48188 – 500 metres away from La Haule slip in St. Brelade early last week.

While a number of individuals have contacted the police since the appeal, no one has been able to give any information about Zsuzsanna's whereabouts since 10 May. DI Craig Jackson said the police are particularly interested into piecing together Zsuzsanna's movements over the weekend of 12 and 13 May.

It is believed Zsuzsanna had been in Jersey for the past seven or eight years. According to the police, she had no family in the island.

They are asking any of her friends or colleagues who saw her between the evening of Thursday 10 and lunchtime on Monday 14 May, to get in touch. There is no evidence at the moment that she might have left the island.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV footage to try and track Zsuzsanna's movements. They are currently working on 140 lines of enquiry and the investigation has been named 'Operation Duke.'

Meanwhile the post mortem examination carried out on Friday on the body recovered on the sand at Le Pulec on 16 May, at the far northern end of the bay, close to L'Etacq, has failed to identify a cause of death. DI Jackson explained that the death is still being treated as unexplained.

Officers are expecting lab results later on this week to confirm whether the body is Zsuzsanna's.

The police is asking anyone with information to contact them on 62612 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
