A investigation into possible data breaches at Guernsey's water company, which was prompted by leaked CCTV footage of a couple having sex at the reservoir, has been widened after it emerged that a video of a van crash in the area had also ended up online.
The video of the two people on the reservoir dam was shared widely on social media last week.
The matter was then referred to Guernsey's Police and Data Protection Authority. An internal investigation was also launched.
Guernsey Water commented: “A thorough internal investigation will identify any areas where Guernsey Water’s data protection policies and procedures need to be strengthened and where these need to be better communicated to staff.”
“The internal investigation will also consider a CCTV clip of a separate incident, where a contractor’s van collides with gates at the reservoir, which has also been shared on social media,” the company added.
“That recording had been shared with the contractor to assistwith a health and safety review into the incident. It is not yet known how the footage was subsequently shared on social media.”

The Managing Director of Guernsey Water said the States-owned utility has CCTV footage at various operational sites for “very valid and important reasons”.
“As far as the footage is concerned, we take our responsibilities very seriously, hence the reason for launching our internal investigation.
“We will continue to co-operate with the relevant authorities in their investigations and will instigate any recommendations from them in addition to any that come out of our own internal review.”
