Charity Christmas Wishes: The Royal British Legion

Thursday 26 December 2024

A charity which provides support to veterans in Jersey has shared its wishes for 2025 after a busy year during which members marched for the royals.

At the end of every year, Express speaks to local charities about what their Christmas wishes are for the year ahead.

Today, we spoke to the Royal British Legion Jersey – a charity which provides financial, social and emotional care and support to members of the British Armed Forces and their families.

The charity shared how members got to meet the Royals this year, and raised awareness of veterans' needs.

What have been the highlights of 2024?

The Royal Visit, with veterans having the opportunity to meet the King and Queen and being included in the march past – despite the appalling weather!

D Day 80 commemorative events and, of course, the great result of the Poppy Appeal fundraising.

What has been the greatest challenge?

Raising awareness and getting help to those in need.

There is also a belief that a veteran has to be a member of the RBL in order to request support. You don’t!

And what is on your charity’s ‘wish list’ for 2025?

It would be lovely to see an end to conflict across the world but for now, to carry on providing help and support to our veteran community as we have done for the past 102 years.

And that the Jersey public continue to be so generous and supportive in providing much needed funds so we can continue the help and support our veterans deserve in return for the service they have given their country.
