Charity Christmas Wishes: Enable Jersey

Wednesday 25 December 2024

A charity which supports and advocate for people with disabilities in Jersey has shared its wishes for 2025 after a busy year working to make the island more accessible and inclusive.

At the end of every year, Express speaks to local charities about what their Christmas wishes are for the year ahead.

Today, we spoke to Enable Jersey – an organisation which provides services designed to enable islanders with a disability to lead the life they choose.

What have been the highlights of 2024?

So many and so varied!

I would say just knowing you are making a difference to someone or a family in some small way, sometimes its easy to get lost in big things but for some of the people we work what can appear to small or simple isn’t straightforward but when we help connect someone or fix something the impact can be huge!

What has been the greatest challenge?

As ever just making sure we have enough resource to support people in the way we know they need.

We want to grow but also need to stabilise where we are in a difficult climate in terms of finance, fundraising etc.

It certainly isn’t easy when you want to say yes but sometimes have to say no.

And what is on your charity’s ‘wish list’ for 2025?

2025 is going to be a big year for Enable, we want to ‘get out there’ spread the message and help Jersey to become a more inclusive and accessible island where everyone can live a life without limits.
